Hawksbill Crag is an Arkansas treasure deep in the Ozark National Forest. Every year thousands of hikers hike the Whitaker Point Trail to the beautiful rocky viewpoint.

While there is a parking area at the trailhead on County Road 5, warm weekend days may cause you to park along the road. A sign at the trailhead describes the hike, and across the road to the east is the trailhead. A white marker marks the trail.

The hike is about 2 hours on a forested trail, eventually opening up to reach the Crag, a rock formation jutting out of the bluff face that meets the Hawk’s Beak. The crag overlooks Whittaker Creek and a wide valley as far as the eye can see. If it has rained recently, you may encounter several small waterfalls along the way.

The trail begins at the Whitaker Point trailhead. When setting your GPS to this location, be sure not to drive on County Road 3605 unless you have a 4WD vehicle with good ground clearance.

Heading north on Route 16, take a right (east) on Mount Cave Road (County Road 5). You will see a sign for Whittaker Point at this junction. After about 4 miles you will see a parking area. The parking area itself is small. On hot weekend days, you may have to park on the side of the road. Please keep in mind that some of the roads leading to the trailhead may be dirt or gravel.
